Finally a sweet freelance job I can totally get into!

I am working on the video production crew at the Detroit Electronic Music
Festival. It is being broadcast live on the internet, 12 noon-midnight all
this weekend (and Monday.)

I think tomorrow (Sunday) I am working on the main (DEMF) stage. I dunno for
sure. But if it's like today, many times, will you see me on camera running
to fix something or other...

so tune in if you're home and bored.

Okay, so i've been doing some film freelancing. Yeah, I don't like freelancing. (P.A. / aka GOPHER WORK!)
I don't mind doing the SAME thing in downtown farmington, at Avalon Films though (9a-6p Mon-Fri) It takes 3 minutes to get to work. I love it. When I freelance somewhere besides Avalon, it's not as fun. Yesterday I had to drive to PORT HURON... I just don't like working under 100 different directors. If I'm gonna be a gopher 1/2 the time, I'd rather it be the same 4 director's. Especially since those directors are always asking me for computer assistance in pre-production. It's WAY cooler. They actually respect my opinions. (Jim O'Dea, Dan Hacket, Larry August & Barry Meier are just great guys to work for)

When I'm not doing typical Production Assitant work, then I get to play on the computer and do pre-production stuff. Which doesn't seem as gopher-like because I'm having fun. So Avalon Films is totally who i want to work for. I feel more important instead of like a pee-on. Even though I am the lowest rung on the latter. Allmost everyone else they've hired has been family, so it's not an easy thing to get in the door anyways.
I worked a non Avalon shoot testerday, they had me wiping CARS off for 4 hours. Cars that were to be filmed in a wide shot 200 feet away. Whatever. It was lame. The guy cleaning them was SO into cars. I'm like 'oh man. I hate to say it.. but what I REALLY want to do... is DIRECT." Oh well. I can wait until september when I get some time off and shoot my film for 3 weeks. As long as I can do that
once a year, I don't care what I do the rest of the time. I would make better money freelancing, but the money doesn't really matter. It's all about peace of mind.
