As True Now As It Was In 2000

Who's running the new Mac OSX ? What do you think of it so far?

My widgets aren't working. I downloaded a bunch of supposedly free ones but they don't work. Maybe I put them in the wrong folder I dunno. Lousy widgets.

UPDATE. OK the widgets thing was a user error. I didn't see the little plus sign that lets you add new ones in. WHOOPS

good music

so today i was all up and down emotionally. to stablize myself I went for a musical theropy

i decided to scour for some good jazz to bring up my mood this evening

but i somehow ended up listening to songs only from 1967, which is my favorite year musically, some things of note:

Miles Davis is god. I know some say it's Clapton, but it's Miles.

Just Walk Away Renee is one of the best songs ever written. In the 3 versions I have (it was covered twice IMMEDIATELY after being released) I can't even decide which version I like the best. The Left Banke wrote and performed it initially so they should get props for that.

Otis Redding can make me smile no matter what the odds. Sometimes I forget this but when you hear that much soulful expression coming out of one voice it really puts you in a state of awe.

The Four Tops are much cooler than I ever gave them credit for.

Rolling Stones - Between The Buttons is one of the most incredible LPs ever released. You think you've heard it, try it again with the new CD on an SACD player. You haven't heard it until you've gone 24-bit.

Aside from 1967 music, earlier today, I probably annoyed the editing suite in the next room as I put on Phish - The Curtain on repeat. I couldn't help it, it put me in a zone where I wanted to be. I've got such memories of that song, driving 2000 miles south to florida for new years 2000 celebration on an indian reservation, plus it was the last song the band played live, and it was the first song they wrote together.

As he saw his life run away from him
Thousands ran along
Chanting words from a song.
"Please me have no regrets"
"Please me have no regrets"

Came from the baby's mouth
We follow the lines going south

"Please me have no regrets"

Came from the, came from the, came from the... baby's mouth!
We follow the line going south!

Chicago Trip

Ollie's set at the Hideout in Chicago was great. He was losing his voice near the end, but he's had a cold so it was to be expected. The animal shelter made decent money on the concerts and everyone involved had a great time.

Oliver Davidson, otherwise known as Old Dog.

My new thing is to take photos of manmade structures being blocked by nature. I started doing it in Amsterdam and then took a few like that in Washington DC.

I saw a damn Giraffe today. I can't remember the last time I could say that. The free lincoln park zoo in chicago is awesome! I highly recommend it during a cheap day on the town.
I thought I could make some cool desktop backgrounds when I took shots in the greenhouse/conservatory, but I see I need to account for a deeper focal length when I take pics from this close, but these turned out. If you'd like one of these in a larger size let me know and I'll hook you up.

I was in Chicago for less than 24 hours. I think thats a first for me. Even when it was only 2 hours away when I was living in Grand Rapids I would go for at least 2 days.

i should be dating miss mid-michigan

tonight i met my first GILF

Grandma I'd like... well you get the idea.

In a roadhouse... yes a roadhouse as lousydog and I were about to leave we are approached by a girl. She pushes us down into our chairs and says we have to stay. She tells him that he looks like Kevin Smith (not true) and she tells me she's like to suck me.

anyways, her older sister was hot and she's got a 19 year old with a kid. a GILF.. rockin!

We allow drinks to be bought for us and we hang out for a spell. Before too long we opt out to his pad and chill. I haven't seen him in a while so a mid Chicago bound stop to see him is the perfect treat for a Friday night.

Neighborhood Memories

Jason was over 4 hours late coming from Grand Rapids. He got in after 9pm. We went to my work so I could finish up a leftover animation archive, and then went to TGIFridays while another one started up. The worst service on the planet. I had the worst coca cola ever, it was more carbonation that coke i think. blech. i should just drink nothing but water for a while.

We worked out some new ideas for animations and then we watched Annie Hall... what a brilliant movie. It's gonna motivate me to do some scriptwriting this week.

As I waited for Jason to show up, I took the dog for a long walk. We went all over my neighborhood, I was mostly thinking about how the place has changed and how I won't be around here for much longer.

I remember our little park area when it was a horse farm back in 1980. I used to come down with my next door neighbor and feed the horses.

I walked all around the park and into the other subdivision behind us that backs into Drake road. They have paved walking paths all through the sub so you don't have to worry about cars driving around.

Chloe gets me so much attention, she's an interesting color Yorkshire Terrier. Women think she's the cutest thing and just come up and start talking to me. Kids think she's great too, although I have gotten a couple "MOMMY, look at how silly the little dog looks with the big man!!" As different from each other our sizes may be, I think she's just barely more furry than I am.

My current favorite response to say to women who give me a "you have a beautiful dog" is "You're not so bad yourself." OK well I'm still working it out in my head but I want to say it really bad.

Walking thru the sub seeing the houses of people I used to know. It's weird to think that 15+ years ago this used to be my whole world. It wasn't until I started collecting comic books that I would venture across Grand River to get to the comic store on 7mile.

We'd go down 11 mile crossing over Drake and run thru Heritage Park. We could get lost in there for hours. One time we got so lost we couldn't figure out how to get home, finally I rang the doorbell of some home and was like "Are we in Ohio!??" I was so sure we had gone a million miles.

I'd ride my bike to Efros, which doesn't even exist anymore. In fact that whole strip mall is gone, it's a Busch's grocery store now. There used to be the best Strohs ice cream shoppe there. It was like the reward for riding that far... mmm ice cream... so good.

Chalk Dust Torture

But who can unlearn all the facts that I've learned
As I sat in their chairs and my synapses burned
And the torture of chalk dust collects on my tongue
Thoughts follow my vision and dance in the sun
All my vasoconstrictors they come slowly undone
Can't this wait till I'm old? Can't I live while I'm young?
