happy birthday dude!

Well I just got THE coolest birthday (8/21) present ever... a Fantastic Four #100. I've been looking for this book since I was 12 and could never afford it. Now it comes to me for free.

wakin up lovin life in Illinois.

I love life. Today I woke up, hopped in Edgars pool (kept at 98 degrees) swam around for a while and went on the slide. Yes, the slide. I love the slide. I don't want to go home as this is my last day off of the year, besides the 1/2 day I took off for when Matrix comes out...

Tomorrow is another story, but today shall be fun!!!

dangit!

Well I just went over my credit card balance by $8 and now they will probably charge me $25. That sucks.

This weekend (& summer) has been a blast. I can't spend any money until Christmas now though. I am now in Chicago for my third and last day before heading home, taking Jordan to see her boy in Detroit. Friday night I spent with Jordan, but she felt ill so after dinner I went out with her friends, we were supposed to hang out with DERRICK MAY but got bored of waiting for him as he slept too late (12:30am) for his show that was supposed to start at 12. We didn't want to stay out until 4 so we just took off.
Saturday night I spent with Mary and Alison until meeting up with Mark, Chris and Geoff at the show. Geoff and I are officially Head Head's (Kinda like a Dead Head but following Radiohead instead of the Grateful Dead)

I have seen Radiohead twice since I left home on Thursday.

The first thing I did on my birthday was listen to Jimi Hendrix, although I was a bit disappointed in the surround sound. It was Jimi in stereo with crowd noises in surround sound. Pretty lame!

Radiohead was phenomenal for my birthday--

i dream of phish now

I don't remember my dreams very often, but i just dreamt I was at a phish concert. It was the strangest layout ampitheatre ever, in that there was a grass hill, no pavilion and then the stage. the band was on a platform and then a 20 foot drop to a lake with docks and boats and peoples houses.

I snuck in the venue as security was dealing with someone else and ran right up to the front row. They started the encore and low and behold it was my favorite, Chalkdust Torture.

Trey Anastasio was being his weird self and singing the first few lines before the chorus in a strange voice. When he got to the chorus he thrashed around on stage and fell off into the water below.

Immediately the rescue teams were poised to jump down to save him. He was swimming up towards us and he looked like the cover of Nirvana's Nevermind I wanted to take a photo so I turned to the guy next to me and said he should take a picture.

He said "I'm about to pass out man" and his friend said "I think I feel sick, how far is the car?" I then offered to drive them as my car was close (I got there late so I had the closest spot.. that makes sense right?)

Then they go "We are looking for people to give pot away to, do you want some? It's really good stuff."

and then I woke up.

Where were YOU when the lights went out?

I was at work. I was reading about the windows virus spreading all over. Then my monitor gave out. I walked past Chris Wirth's Flame room and he screamed "EVERYONE SAVE THE BEER BEFORE IT GOES SKUNK!" so we all went outside and drank beer.

I went back in after he told me to turn off all the hard drives for the SGI workstations and then we drank until 8pm.

Iraqis' top 10 tips for enduring blackout in the heat
And they should know

Here is a top 10 list -- starting at No. 10 and ending at the No. 1 suggestion, compiled from comments on the streets of Baghdad:

10. Sleep on the roof

Without power -- and hence without air conditioning -- Iraqis have taken to climbing up stairs in the hot nights. Some install metal bed frames on rooftops, while others simply stretch out on thin mattresses. "We sleep on the roof," said Hadia Zeydan Khalaf, 38, wearing a black head-to-toe abaya in the hot sun. "It's cooler there."

9. Sit in the shade

Many Iraqis go outside when the power's off. "We sit in the shade," said George Ruweid, 27, playing cards with friends on the sidewalk. Of the U.S. blackout, he said: "I hope it lasts for 20 years. Let them feel our suffering."

8. Head for the water

"We go to the river, just like in the old days," said Saleh Moayet, 53. Several people said they had seen American beaches on television, and suggested they might be a good place to sit out the blackout. "They have so many beautiful beaches," said Hamid Khelil, 44. "They should go where it isn't so hot."

7. Shower frequently

"I take showers all day," said Raed Ali, 33. "Before I go up to the roof to sleep, I take a shower and I'm cooler."

6. Buy blocks of ice

When refrigerators shut down, there's no better way to keep food cool. Mohammed Abdul Zahara, 24, sells about 20 a day from a roadside table. "When it's hot people buy a lot of ice," he said.

5. Check for bitter-enders

"They should go to the power stations and see what the problem is," suggested Ahmed Abdul Hussein, 21. "Maybe there are followers of Saddam Hussein who are sabotaging their power stations. That's what happens here."

4. Get a generator

Abbas Abdul al-Amir, 53, has one of a long row of shops selling generators in Baghdad's Karadah shopping street. When the power goes out, sales go up. "I sell about 30 generators a day," he said. "When the shutdown lasts I can sell even more."

3. Call in the Iraqis

Some suggested the Americans ask the Iraqis how to get the power going again. "Let them take experts from Iraq," said Alaa Hussein, 32, waiting in a long line for gas because there was no electricity for the pumps. "Our experts have a lot of experience in these matters."

2. Use foul language.

"When the power goes out, I curse everybody," said Emad Helawi, a 63-year-old accountant. "I curse God. I curse Saddam Hussein. And I curse the Americans."

And No. 1: Take to the streets

The most frequent suggestion among Iraqis for Americans suffering without power was protest. Some said demonstrations can be effective in persuading authorities to turn on the switch.
"We held protests. After that we had fewer blackouts," Ahmed Abdul Hussein said without even a hint of sarcasm. "I'd suggest Americans go out and demonstrate."

put down the plastic

oh i am so depressed.. i've spent $2,700 on my credit card in the last month and a half. I KNOW better what is my deal... When i was younger Mike Meyers, my manager at Kinko's said "Don't ever buy anything on your credit card that won't be there when the bill comes." and of course I didn't listen but I wish I had.
