When you're going to San Francisco be sure to put a flower in your hair

Well I will be missing Phish this summer BUT I will be spending hella time in California, Washington and Montana so it all evens out. I've never really spent time west of St. Louis so to be on a little road trip action will do my soul lots of good.

As it currently works out I'll be flying to San Francisco June 11th and not coming back to work until July 1st!

what the hell?

It's fucking snowing!

my voice

my voice is coming in and out. i want to play guitar and sing loud because it's raspy like bob dylan and i think i could make a hit record if I had about 1/10 of dylans musical talent. maybe i'll just do a cover album.

i'm at work. we're doing blockbuster. they've made us re-start from scratch 3 times. I hope this one satisfys them because i really don't want to work until dawn because no matter what, it's due at noon.

Body Aching. Head Exploding - Vegas Experience Continued

Thursday, Part 2
Well Vegas really wrecked my body. I got home from the airport @ 5pm and basically slept from 7pm - 3pm. Now I'm awaiting Mike Martin to come here, I swear he said 7pm but whatever.

OK, so we left off in the last post I was at Red Rocks. If you haven't read that, scroll down, read the 4/18 post and then come back here.

Everyone together now? OK. So Jeremy got us stuck a few times, we climbed to areas we weren't able to climb out from easily. Esther said he does that all the time, so I will be prepared next time. I can't beleive he got me to do some of the things I did. I am not exactly limber. Nor do I have good balance. But I'm alive so I guess I am capable of getting myself out of predicaments.

My absolute favorite part was when Jeremy didn't follow the way I went and got stuck somewhere really hard to get out of. He had to push his way through a bush so I could pull him up to the ledge I was on. That was so great. I got a pic of him in the bush stuck with his hand waving out.

After that we went back to his place so he could shower and we went off to the show. The walk from Terrible's Hotel & Casino I was staying at was about 12 minutes. Not bad at all, especially since Las Vegas traffic sucks.

Shakedown Street did not disappoint, but I would gather about 65% of the people on the lot did not have tickets for the show. We bought some fungus and went into the show. The opened with Buried Alive > AC/DC Bag. The highlights of the show were Free and the Jay-Z cover of Girls Girls Girls. To see Trey rapping is just hilarious. We went out into the hallway after a while because it was so hot inside, I bumped into a high school friend, James Cleaver who is now Jimmy and is about to be married.. congrats Jimmy Cleaver!!! He proposed about 2 hours before I saw him that night.

I got really tired at this point since it was almost 24 hours since I woke up, as I left at 5am Detroit time and it was now coming up on 4am Detroit time. But the cold woke me up as we walked home. We did some gambling and I went off to bed shortly after 3am Vegas time.

Friday

Friday started lazy. I think I slept until 1pm. Then I walked to The Strip, it was about an 8 minute walk. I was alone as most of my friends would arrive after midnight. I met Jeremy's roomate Esther for a few minutes the day before and since she was taking my extra ticket for the night I decided to stop by her work. Jeremy said she was getting off work at 6:30 and had no cell phone so I thought it would be better than waiting to hear from her at 7pm when she walked into the door at her apartment.

I immediately went the wrong way on The Strip, but I found a mall in a casino and bought a new pair of shoes. My Dr. Scholls shoes only lasted about 2 months they were really hurting my feet. The tennis shoes I bought also hurt my feet but in a different place so it was bearable. I guess I still have to go shopping for better shoes after I get my paycheck.

I looked at a map and figured out where The Venitian was, that's where Esther works, she's a Gondaleer. She sings and everything. She also talks in a fake Italian accent. It's great. Well she was off work at 5pm so I opted to hang out in that mall for an hour and a half and meet her. I got some Swordfish and Haagen Daaz, but not at the same time.

After work it's hard for Esther to not do an Italian accent, it's kinda funny if you think about it. Working 8 hours with an entire pretend personal background and then going back to normal is a hard switch. So we hit the lot. Esther loved it, It was her first show as well. 2 shows and 2 show virgins, can you get any better than that?

Phish's Friday night highlights were many: Possum, Strange Design, Wilson, Gumbo, Harry Hood.. .. oh and Fishman unveiled a new "Music Dress' which he played it was kinda weird. It was like pieces of sound encoded into the fabric he could play by rubbing these things on it.

After the show Esther wanted to go to The Freezone, a gay bar in the part of town known as "The Fruit Loop," which is a series of gay bars on the way back to my hotel. I met Jeremy there and a girl he works with that he's in love with but she's gay. They asked "If a girl that hang with gay men is a "fag hag" what is a guy that hangs with lesbians? They decided he was a "dyke tyke" but I used that as my ice breaker to meet new people. I ended up sitting with a bunch of people at the end of the bar, they opted for the title "bitch witch." Jeremy and Esther left after "trying" to find me but how can you miss me? So I hung out with these kids I just met. I was infatuated with the waitress and so was the guy in the group I was hanging with. Shortly after he professed his lust for her another waiter came over and said he should give it up that she's got a crush on ME. So here I am at a gay bar finding a straight girl to hook up with. It doesn't get any better than that.

So they all left and instead of drooling over the waitress alone I walked to the hotel and called up the UI crew. Chris Wirth said come on over to Harrah's after I asked if they were jet lagged and crashing or partying it up longer. A cab ride later I am with them and they are CRASHING. Whatever. I wasted $15 on cab rides. But I did find the coolest slot machine in the world, it's made by Hasbro and it's Monopoly themed. I LOVE MONOPOLY so I was hooked. I took $200 out of the ATM and threw it away for an hour of fun. Then I got the call, Mike and Katie were arriving from San Francisco so I finished my games and went to the hotel. They were falling asleep but we talked for a few minutes and then everyone crashed.

Saturday We woke up and Kate and I went poolside for a bit before we all hit the strip together. I miss Kate and Mike, they rule so much. I miss Kate on phish tour most and I miss Mike most of the regular days of my life.

We wandered The Strip and went to the show. I hooked up with Mike Kerr in town from Los Angeles and gave him my extra ticket, and off we went. On the lot I got a call from Chris Taylor, FINALLY A SHOW WITH CHRIS. We've been talking about hanging since the summer before but never connected on tour. So we did and it was a blast, he's so fun.

Meatstick in Japanese was the highlight of this show, especially the Tweezer reprise with the lyrics "Won't you step into the Meatstick" right after. I also loved Halley's Comet, Piper>Frankenstien and YEM >Tweezer. The YEM lacked a vocal jam at the end but that's ok the lighting guy from Dave Matthew's band filling in for Chris Koruda wouldn't have known what to do with a vocal jam.

After Phish Mike Kerr and I saw Del the Funkee Homosapien at The Boston club, that was a lot of fun too. I stayed up into the dawn and caught my plane home. Now I am still recovering as my mind is exploding and my body is aching. I definately got a workout this weekend... body mind and spirit.

The Vegas Experience

I am now in the airport in Vegas waiting an hour for my plane to start boarding. You have to come really early to airports when you look like an al queda operative.

Three nights of Phish was amazing, they did not disapppoint. The light show was a disappoinement however, I have never missed Chris Koruda so!

Thursday started at 5am EST. I was very excited at how comfortable my seat was before takeoff. I mad the mistake of commenting to myself how great the setup was, I had an aisle seat with a seat between me and the cute girl at the window. Perfect. Just after that thought, a 400lb woman asked to sit next to me. Needless to say, my experience took a dive. After she got off in Phoenix the stewardess told me that I will get a refund as Southwest has a policy to make overly obese people purchase 2 seats. I had to sit angles just to not be touching her rolls of fat hanging over the arm rests.

I arrived in Vegas just after 11am PST.

Jeremy picked me up and we went to his work to get his paycheck. He runs the hotel of a casino 15 miles south of town. It's a ferry boat or something, I took a photo, it's hilarious.

Jeremy fed me for free and then we went off to Red Rocks after short stop at his apartment. Red Rocks is a nature trail and some mountains for viewing and climbing. We almost got really stuck twice, but thru shear willpower we got thru without killing ourselves. I haven't conquered my fear of heights but I came close.

yay karma

Funny how things kinda just always end up working out for me.

I just got a call from California. A friend of a friend needs someone to hang out with in Las Vegas. She's cute. She's blonde. She's into Phish. What else do I really need?

Just as me she had plans to travel with someone and the someone fell thru. I guess we've met before she was a bartender at our Grand Rapids hangout.

Yay, Karma! Yay Mike Kerr. You rock. hehehe.

Don't let dumb girls get you down.

Girls are dumb.

I am now regretting my 12/6/1997 decision to sell 2 Phish tickets for 12/7/1997 in Ohio.

I didn't want to go on the road to see Phish because Katrina and I had a little spat and it was supposed to be our little trip together. Without anyone else to go with I just opted to get rid of the tickets. Something at that time in my life thought that Phish was something for her and I TOGETHER.

I'm sure I sat at home moping that night.

What I should have done was get in my car and drive to Ohio alone. I could have given the ticket away to any random hippie along the way and had a blast with them.

Looking at the setlist and reviews to the show I missed, everyone seems to have gotten an incredible mystical night out of it.

It's one of the 4 archival shows available for download on LivePhish.com
That's got to say something in itself. Being one of the most sought after Phish shows of all time.

And I got rid of my tickets because I thought I couldn't have a good time without a certain someone.

Note to self:You are the only someone you'll ever need.

get involved or stop whining

Are you not impressed with the actions of our government as of late? Do you ever whine about it ? Looking for a way to voice your opinion but not sure how?

www.TrueMajority.org has the solution.

It is so easy to get involved in Washington and so very important too. It could take you under 10 seconds to voice an opinion to your own congress-person.
Yes, 10 seconds. You just need to hit 'reply' when you get an e-mail from this cool website that lets you know your voice is needed when it involves issues in the principles outlined below. Yes it only send a form letter but you can edit the letter to say what you want and your very own representative will get the fax.

Take for instance the last alert they called "The Computer Ate My Vote" which calls on our representatives to insure any computer voting systems that will be used in the future will provide a voter verified paper trail via a printout that you review after voting.
-- "The corporations that make [computer voting systems] are keeping secret how the machines work, saying, "Trust us, nothing can go wrong." They don't even have a way to have a real recount should the machines crash or there be any other reason to think that something might have gone wrong. When Maryland election officials tested the machines, hackers were able to compromise the systems in a matter of minutes..."

This is just one of many issues. If you believe in making a change for the better in our nation you have no excuse not to get involved. Seriously.

After you register they will send you e-mail alerts on critical issues involving the T.M. Principles. With one click of a button you can either send a suggested fax or edit one yourself (and they still send them for you.) You are always free not to participate in any specific issue or remove your name from the list.

TrueMajority Principles:

1. Attack poverty and world hunger as if our life depends on it. It does.
2. Champion the rights of every child, woman & man.
3. End our obstructionism to the world's treaties.
4. Reduce our dependence on oil and lead the world to an age of renewable energy.
5. Close the book on the Cold War and ease the nuclear nightmare.
6. Renounce Star Wars and the militarization of space.
7. Make globalization work for, not against, working people.
8. Ensure equal treatment under law for all.
9. Get money out of politics.
10. Close the gap between rich and poor kids at home.

How It Adds Up

The principles for TrueMajority are revenue neutral. If Washington enacted all of these changes it wouldn’t cost us an extra cent.
By ending programs that are detrimental to America’s security and harm our nation’s role in the world, these changes would provide $40 billion in savings. We can then invest that sum in programs that enhance security by attacking poverty at home and abroad, restore the environment and celebrate the dignity of all the people of the world.

Here is where we would invest the money

Double K-12 education funding.
Renovate public schools over 10 years:  $12 billion(1)

Reduce class size in grades 1-3 to 15 students per class:  $11 billion(2)
Modernize computer technology over 5 years:  $11 billion(3)
Double humanitarian aid to poor countries: $10 billion
Offer health insurance to all uninsured American kids:
$ 6 billion(4)
Increase federal funding for clean energy and energy efficiency:  $ 5 billion(5)
Reduce debts of impoverished nations: $ 2 billion

Principles Explained

1. Attack World Hunger and Poverty as if Our Life Depends on It: It Does.
Anchor our foreign policy in the compassion for the poor that unites all the world's religions. Reduce the debts of impoverished countries. Shift foreign aid from buying weapons to feeding people.
2. Champion the Rights of Every Child, Woman and Man.
Make America stand for justice, not expediency. Stop turning a blind eye to governments that abuse their own people. Ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women. If punishing a foreign tyrant means, in actual practice, punishing the women and children who are his victims, desist, and find another path.
3. End our Obstructionism to the World's Treaties.
Throw America's full weight behind the United Nations, the only political body that holds all the world’s nations in the age of globalization. If the United States participates in the United Nations more effectively and fully, other nations will follow suit.

april what?

ok so i've been working for 17 hours so forgive me....

and i'm a little drunk.

we had a major hard drive crash today. an animator lost at least 17 hours of work. so here i sit backing up what is left of his 3 terrabyte or so disc space. it's a million frames of video. i think it's 3 terrabytes.

there is 1 damn library that will just not let me archive it. it keeps having errors during transferring. it's really annoying. at about midnight i went out to my car and and found all my stuff. my stuff being clothes and shower related things. it was then i decided i would start drinking. i had a very stiff white russian watched Office Space (the perfect I HATE MY JOB movie) and now i am watching Orange County. The movie, not the show.
I don't hate my job tho. I love it but it sucks that i have to deal with this kinda shit sometimes.

I don't think i can make a movie this year, or anytime soon for that matter. I have so much to learn at work that making a movie would actually hurt my chances of success. it sucks. i need to write some shorts. i could shoot short things.so i might as well do that. anyways. umm it's like april and i'm gonna go see phish soon so life will be just swell. i need to go to the doctor i think i'm short of breath lately i wonder if i have some sort of lung problem. i'm just too fat i need to do something about it.

for the first time since i decided to start doing it in november i actually woke up early on tuesday and went to go work out at like 7am it was crazy. i was so happy all day. normally i wake up at 8:20 and i am grumpy at work until noon but i felt so good i need to do that again. maybe it could be a routine or something or maybe i will have a heart attack and die soon. either way i hope i made the most of every day. sometimes it doesn't feel like it but i do love life even tho i've pretty much alienated myself from relationships and friendships there is still hope. one day. i will find the answer and i will figure out that i knew it all along and just ignored it. wake up fat bastard for tomorrow is already here.
